Projects for a more inclusive university
Helping students access higher education and employment
The University of Strasbourg is committed to helping young people with disabilities access higher education.
- The Disability Support Department (Mission handicap) at the University Life Office (Service de la vie universitaire – SVU) meets high-school students during the University and Higher Education Fairs (Journées des universités et des formations post-bac – JU) and the University Open Day (Journée portes ouvertes – JPO)
- In partnership with the Ligue contre le cancer, the university enables young adults affected by illness to join the Projet professionnel teaching unit, helping them return to their studies after treatment
The university also supports people with disabilities with study guidance and professional integration.
- During the European Week for the Employment of People with Disabilities (Semaine européenne pour l’emploi des personnes handicapées – SEEPH), university staff and different employers take part in DuoDay, offering participants the opportunity to discover different professions
- The University of Strasbourg is a signatory of the Atouts pour tous agreement, which supports the professional integration of students with disabilities
Improving accessibility in higher education
The university promotes research and innovation to improve accessibility in higher education.
- The university co-organises the Innov'Hand competition with the Atouts pour tous agreement and the Les entreprises pour la cité (LEPC) – Grand Est network
- The university takes part in the TED-i project led by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, which provides telepresence robots for students temporarily unable to attend classes in person for medical reasons
- The University Life Office's Disability Support Department (Mission handicap du service de la vie universitaire – SVU) contributes to research projects, dissertations and PhD theses on accessibility in higher education, including Anaïs Sisouvanh's research on the professional integration of students with disabilities, as well as the research project on visible and invisible limits of inclusion of deaf and hard-of-hearing students at university led by the Interdisciplinary Thematic Institute of Language, inclusion, remediation, interculturality and communication (Langage, inclusion, remédiation, interculturalité et communication – ITI LiRiC)
- The Disability Support Department works with university services and working groups to integrate accessibility into all areas of university life
- The University of Strasbourg trains and raises awareness of disability-related issues among staff and students through a wide range of initiatives, including the Voyage dans tous les sens exhibition, round-table discussions on disability with psychology students, awareness activities during staff events, and the inclusion of disability topics in training provided by the Institute for Educational Development and Innovation (Institut de développement et d'innovation pédagogiques – IDIP)
