The President
The President of the University of Strasbourg is elected by an absolute majority of the members of the Board of Trustees for a four-year term, which can be renewed once. The President must be a faculty member, researcher, professor, lecturer or hold a similar position at the university.
For the duration of their term, the President nominates Vice-Presidents, including one student representative. Vice-Presidents are selected from the university community and must be approved by a majority of the Board of Trustees.
The President chairs the Academic Council and the Board of Trustees, and is responsible for preparing and implementing their decisions. Every year, the President presents an activity report to the Board of Trustees.
The President represents the university, appoints examination boards and assigns staff to the various university services. The President is also responsible for maintaining order and security, ensuring access to teaching and facilities and managing communication with officially recognised staff unions.
