Strasbourg Laboratory of Hydrology and Geochemistry (LHyGeS) - UMR 7517

Key words

Hydrology – Geochemistry – Biogeochemical transferts – Complex system modelling

Overview

The Laboratory of Hydrology and Geochemistry is a joint research unit appointed and supported by  the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), the University of Strasbourg, and Strasbourg National School of Water Engineering and Environment (ENGEES).

The LHyGeS is a research centre studying weathering processes and transfers in continental hydrosystems. It is part of the few French laboratories researching hydrology and geochemistry through various approaches, including modelling. Since its creation, LHyGeS has developed fundamental knowledge, theories and methods to characterize and understand the functioning of continental hydrosystems. The evolution of this functioning under the modifications of natural forcing and anthropic activity is also investigated.

Research focus

Two major topics are at the core of the LHyGeS research activity:

  • Mathematical hydrology
  • Biogeochemistry and isotopic geochemistry
