Ambitions
Transplantex NG is an integrated research institute focusing on alloimmune (transplantation) and autoimmune diseases. Thanks to multidisciplinary team totalizing over 200 people with expertise ranging from structural biology to social sciences/humanities these conditions are tackled through an unprecedented personalized and high throughput medicine initiative based on multi-omics approaches.
Transplantex NG will also have its own graduate program in advanced translational immunology that will be integrated in a trans-border initiative including Luxembourg, Freiburg and Basel. Finally, robust R&D programs in conjunction with key industrial partners will guarantee translation of the findings into pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and AI-based medicine.
Thematics and research challenges
Transplantex NG aims to:
- Understand the mechanisms of graft rejection/graft versus host disease in order to improve transplantation procedures and outcome.
- Understand the full genetic component of autoimmune diseases.
- Develop multi-omics based patient stratification in auto-immunity and transplantation procedures using big-data and AI tools
- Translation of findings into new tools and/or clinical procedures: from bench to bedside • Improve Autoimmune and Transplant patients’ care
- Develop psychological care pathway for autoimmune patients and assess its efficacy.
- Develop an innovative and internationally oriented Master-to-PhD bridge graduate program in advanced translational immunology.
Graduate program
The main objective is to train students to the most recent advances in immunology taking account of the constantly evolving technological (high throughput) and methodological (systems biology, AI) context of the field.
We aim to give them the keys for success for both fundamental/cognitive research, as well as clinical/diagnostic applications related to patient care.
fundamental, translational and clinical immunology - “omics” techniques and bioinformatics - biostatistics/biomathematics and big data - social and human sciences
Students with a strong background in biology, genetics and immunology. Students can have a scientific, medical or combined (MD-PhD) curricula.
Admission criteria
- Master: Students must have a bachelor degree (or equivalent) in biology (ex. molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry,...) or have validated their 2nd year of medical school. Students must also have been admitted to one of the six associated Masters degrees: Research in Biomedicine (Faculty of Medicine), Immunology and inflammation (Faculty of Life Sciences), High throughput Master (Biotechnology Engineering School of Strasbourg), Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (Biotechnology Engineering School & Faculty of Pharmacy), Pharmaceutical Sciences (Faculty of Pharmacy) and Medicine-Science (Faculty of Medicine). The definitive selection will be made by a teaching committee that will select the students based on their motivations (application letter, CV) and results of exams of the first semester of Master 1.
- PhD: To apply for a PhD, the students must have a Master's degree in Biology / Genetics / Immunology.
