Upon arrival in Strasbourg, make sure you sort out the following administrative formalities.
Summary
EU doctoral students
- If you are not employed, you are not required to take any specific steps upon arrival
- If you are employed: only Romanian and Bulgarian students who don't hold a French master's degree are required to apply for a temporary worker residence permit.
Good to know
Supporting documents for Bulgarian and Romanian researchers
- Produce the originals and provide a photocopy of the following documents:
- passport: pages showing your name, photography and the period of validity
- proof of study or student card
- proof of adress less than 3 months old (electricity, gaz or phone bill/ tenancy agreement)
- Other documents:
- 3 identical passport photos (3,5 x 4,5 cm)
- a copy of your birth certificate
- your employment contract
Non-EU doctoral students
- If you hold a student visa (CESEDA L313-7): apply for a student residence permit at the AGORA (Esplanade campus) from September to December and at the Préfecture afterwards. You will be required to undergo a medical examination at the ANAEM (National Agency for the Reception of Foreign Persons and Migrants).
- If you hold a scientific visa (CESEDA L313-8): apply for a scientific residence permit at the Préfecture. You will be required to undergo a medical examination which will be charged to your employer.

- Produce the originals and provide a photocopy of the following documents:
- passport: pages showing your name, photo and period of validity
- your hosting convention signed by your doctoral school's director and the Vice-president in charge of research and doctoral training
- proof of adress less than 3 months old (electricity, gaz or phone bill/ tenancy agreement)
- Other documents :
- 3 identical passport photos (3,5 x 4,5 cm)
- a copy of the visa D « CESEDA L313-8 » mentionning « carte de séjour à solliciter »
- a copy of your birth certificate and your husband's or wife's if they are coming with you
- your employment certificate
- the original and a copy of OMI's (International Migrations Office) form on medical check-up support, signed by your hosting institution (University, CNRS, INSERM)
