Researchers from the Laboratory of Complex Matter Chemistry (CNRS / University of Strasbourg) managed to weld molecular crystals using molecular tectonics.
Researchers reported an unprecedented strategy based on 3D epitaxial growth to weld crystals under mild conditions: molecular crystals displaying different colours were used to fabricate core-shell crystals ans were welded into multidomain single crystalline entities. The results of this research work were published in the Journal of American Chemical Society. The design and fabrication of complex crystalline systems open new directions in the design of smart materials.
