Paolo Samorì, Director of the Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering (ISIS), has been appointed as Fellow of the Materials Research Society (MRS), a first for a Strasbourg-based researcher. This honour recognises his contributions to the advancement of materials science at the international level through the development of new materials and high-performance multifunctional mechanisms, for applications in the fields of (opto)electronics, energy and sensing.

Every year, the number of new Fellows is capped at 0.2% of the current total number of professional members of the Materials Research Society. The inaugural class of MRS Fellows was announced in 2008. Paolo Samorì is the first scientist from Strasbourg, and the third in France (after Clément Sanchez in 2012 and George Malliaras in 2017), to receive this distinction.

The MRS was founded in 1973 in the United States and brings together more than 11,200 members from over 90 countries worldwide. Its purpose is to promote the advancement of research and technology in the interdisciplinary area of materials science in order to improve the quality of life. MRS Fellows are members whose contributions enjoy international recognition.
