A EUR 150 000 ERC Proof of Concept grant has been awarded to Paolo Samori, Director of the Nanochemistry Laboratory of the Institut de science et d’ingénierie supramoleculaires (Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering – ISIS, CNRS/Unistra) and to Andrey Klymchenko, Director of Research at the Laboratory of Bioimagery and Pathologies (UMR 7021 Unistra/CNRS) to explore the innovation potential of their scientific discoveries.
Pure water for everyone
A new ERC Proof of Concept grant has been awarded to Paolo Samori, Director of the Nanochemistry Laboratory of the Institut de science et d’ingénierie supramoleculaires (Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering – ISIS, CNRS/Unistra) for the research project entitled “Graphene and related materials membranes for efficient removal of toxic cations from water”.
The GRAPHEME project will develop graphene-based membranes and related materials to purify water efficiently by eliminating toxic pollutants such as ions, particles and microorganisms.
Nanoparticles to detect cancer markers
As the leader of an ERC Consolidator BrightSens project, Dr Andrey Klymchenko (Laboratory of Bioimagery and Pathologies – LBP- UMR 7021 Unistra/CNRS), has been awarded an ERC Proof of Concept AmpliFISH grant entitled “Sondes ultrabrillantes pour l'hybridation in situ en fluorescence amplifiée pour le diagnostic de cancer” (“Ultrabright probes for amplified fluorescence in situ hybridisation for cancer diagnosis”).
The aim of the AmpliFISH project is to develop ultrabright fluorescent nanoparticles to view target nucleic acids (RNA and DNA) inside cells with single-molecule sensitivity. The technology developed will be applied for simple and rapid detection of tumour markers in order to improve the early detection of cancer.
