The celestial globe in the University of Strasbourg’s Astronomical Observatory illustrates the sky in the age of Louis XIV. It was created in 1697 from the engravings of the Venetian cartographer, Vincenzo Coronelli, who designed the monumental pair of celestial and terrestrial “Marly globes” for the Sun King.
