Alternating lockdown, a mathematical simulation provides the solution

Different perspectives on Covid-19 research: mathematics. The epidemic poses health, economic and social problems. In order to alleviate these problems, a study based on mathematical models has highlighted the advantages of an alternating lockdown, which would have the same efficacy as the current lockdown. Nava Schulmann, a researcher with the Project Mimesis team at the Institut National de Recherche en Sciences et Technologies du Numérique (INRIA), explains.

Stimulating the orbitofrontal cortex in order to change economic choices

Researchers at Washington University in St. Louis have gained a better understanding of the physiological process at work in the brain during economic decision-making, proving that the value signals identified in the orbitofrontal cortex are indeed involved in decision-making. Sébastien Ballesta, a lecturer at the Laboratoire de Neurosciences Cognitives et Adaptatives, who participated in the study published in Nature, explains.

Rare disease helps to fight type 2 diabetes

By studying Alström syndrome, researchers from Inserm and the University of Strasbourg have identified a new therapeutic target for type 2 diabetes. With the firm backing of Conectus*, the research should enter the clinical phase by the second quarter of 2021.

Discovery of a mechanism to regulate contact sites between organelles

Researchers from the Institut de Génétique et de Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire (IGBMC) have moved another step towards understanding how cells function. They have identified a molecular mechanism that regulates the dynamics of contact formation between organelles. The study of these structures, which enable the transportation of cholesterol to the inside of cells, is a new and fast-expanding field of cell biology.

Lockdown 2 situation report

Despite the commitment of the entire university community to maintaining face-to-face teaching from the beginning of the academic year, all classes will henceforth take place remotely, except for some practical classes in which stricter hygiene measures will be imposed. All teachers are invited to give their lessons using the available digital resources. Digital tools, specific platforms and network capacity have been strengthened thanks to the system introduced since the first lockdown and as part of the preparations of the beginning of the academic year from September.
