Fight against global warming: researcher Amir Hoveyda, new winner of the MOPGA call for projects in Strasbourg

Amir Hoveyda is one of the 12 winners of the third wave of the "Make our Planet Great Again" (MOPGA) call for projects launched by French President Emmanuel Macron. This researcher will conduct his research at the Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering (ISIS), a joint unit of the University of Strasbourg and the CNRS. In his project, entitled PRACCATAL, Amir Hoveyda will study multi-catalytic systems for more energy-efficient chemical syntheses.

Electroluminescent transistors activated by optical stimuli

By creating organic electroluminescent transistors that respond to optical stimuli, Paolo Samorì and his team have taken a new step in the production of multifunctional optoelectronic devices. The discovery, made in collaboration with University College London and Humbolt University Berlin as part of the European iSwitch project, was published in Nature Nanotechnology.

Particles play pinball in galactic superbubbles

By studying the superbubbles of Galaxy NGC 3079, an American researcher was able to determine that the latter emitted X-rays produced within them. Yelena Stein, a postdoctoral fellow at the Strasbourg Astronomical Observatory, analysed the intensity of the magnetic field, which makes the smallest of these gas bubbles a real particle accelerator. The discovery was published in The Astrophysical Journal.

Gene therapy tested for the treatment of myotubular myopathy

Researchers at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cell Biology have discovered how myotubularin, a protein deficient in myotubular myopathy, interacts with amphiphysin 2. They propose focusing on this for the treatment of patients. This work was published on 20 March 2019 in Science Translational Medicine.

9.1 million Euros for a doctoral programme in quantum science within the framework of Eucor - The European Campus

The "Quantum Science and Technologies at the European Campus" (QUSTEC) project, a joint international and interdisciplinary doctoral programme in quantum science and technologies, has been selected by the European Commission. Led by Eucor - The European Campus, it will bring together the universities of Basel, Freiburg-en-Breisgau and Strasbourg, as well as the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and IBM Research Zurich.
